Love this post, Diana! And FYI every post Hailey writes is that good. She doesn’t publish very often, but that means everything that comes out is gold. Check out her archive!
Also I would LOVE to discuss one battle after another with you. I came very close to walking out of that movie.
I am a fellow hothead. I feel like my calling in life is to model for my female clients that they're allowed to be righteously angry. It is often not until I get angry about an injustice on their behalf that it occurs to them that they're entitled to feel angry and to stand up for themselves. Did you read Rage Becomes Her? I felt so validated by that book.
I relate to your powerful words on so many levels. As a biracial (I hate that word) Latina, I grew up with a chip on my shoulder toward white people. Walking in front of you like they don’t see you. Sneering when they hear someone speaking Spanish, Chinese, Tagalog. Calling you Jose, when you serve their food in a restaurant when your name tag is on your blouse. I could go on and on, but you get the picture. I speak up for myself and others. “Sorry, I didn’t realize I was in your way” or my favorite, “white people” that most times elicits a shocked look. What is happening to the immigrant community, my community pisses me off. Racism didn’t start with dtrump (family name.) It’s been here since time immemorial. Hatred for another human being for the color of their skin, the language they speak, or sexual orientation. My anger raises my blood pressure. Causes me to bitch and moan more than usual. My husband always tells me “don’t sweat the small stuff.” I refuse to give acts of racism, overt and subtle a pass. Turn the other cheek. Consider the source. Going high, instead of lowering myself to their level. Fuck that. My email signature says who I am without apologies.

Thanks so much for reading. I, like you, hate the term "biracial." And, I love your email signature. Hard not to let the anger overtake me, but I think when we can channel it into action it can be a necessary and important thing to tap into. Sending you love and solidarity.
🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽 You are a fabulous writer. Keep doing what you’re doing. For me, my Substack immigration articles are my platform, and my fiction short stories are my creative stress relievers. I love my Latina protagonists.

Can’t wait to discuss. And yes, I’ve subscribed and will be a regular reader of Hailey’s now. Thanks for suggesting.

I have not read it! But now I will. I love that you are modeling healthy anger for your clients. It’s so important.
Thanks for the shout out!! “I thought I would hate it but didn’t” is very high praise in my book! :)
lol. I meant it as high praise. I have forward your piece to so many people.
